Find a silhouette that suits you
A close-fitting top follows the lines of the body and works well with wide-leg trousers or skirts with more volume. A straighter or more relaxed fit creates a softer shape and can be balanced with slim trousers or a skirt with a clean line.
The neckline also plays an important part in the overall look. A more open neckline draws the eye upwards and leaves room for jewellery or a small scarf, while a higher neckline creates a more continuous silhouette. Subtle details at the shoulders, sleeves or waist can give the top its own character without making it difficult to combine.
Create balance between the top and the lower half
